The objective of the Sports and Social Club, which is a registered charity, is to promote existing sports activity within the village and provide the framework to support and encourage any new clubs.
The Sports and Social Club is an umbrella organization for the main sports clubs in the village, namely Football (senior, ladies and youth), Cricket, Tennis and Badminton. It is run by a Management Committee that meets on a regular basis (normally monthly), and representatives from all of the sports clubs are invited to attend and participate in these meetings.
In addition, there are activities affiliated to the Sports and Social Club such as Kick Boxing, Ju Jitsu, cycling and rambling.
A monthly newsletter is published by the Sports and Social Club and distributed throughout the village as part of the Parish News. Apart from giving contact names for the various sports activities, the newsletter enables the clubs to address a wide audience whenever they wish to publicize themselves and write articles about what they are doing.
The sports facilities are owned and managed by the Parish Council and hired out to the Sports and Social Club on an annual basis. These include the Football and Cricket pitches, together with appropriate parts of the Community Hall on match-days, and the Multi-Purpose Play Area for Tennis.
The village pubs all play an important part in the sporting life of the village, with The Bull currently sponsoring the Saturday Football team, the George and Dragon supporting the Cricket teams and Tennis activity and the Waggon and Horses sponsoring the Sunday Football team.
The Chairman of the Sports and Social Club Management Committee is Rod Willis (01992 551672) and the Secretary is Ian Knight (01920 830448)
